South Africa ADV Tour - May

ITINERARY:

Day 1 - Arrival day

Day 2 - You will meet your motorcycle and spend some time getting to know local culture and traffic flow patterns while riding 35 miles on pavement to ADA Training & Outdoor Centre. A welcome braai will be provided as you camp under the stars.

Day 3 - Full off-road training day with Bret Tkacs at ADA Training & Outdoor Centre, where you will practice riding your motorcycle over a wide variety of terrains and obstacles.

Day 4 - This will be the first full day on the road to the Dante Deo, a game lodge in Mokopane that showcases what Africa has to offer. 175 miles / 90% on-road / 10% off-road.

Day 5 - Travel to the entrance to Mapesu Private Game Reserve. We will be staying on-site at a location that pursues conservation and responsible tourism. 195 miles / 90% on-road / 10% off-road.

Day 6 - Ride through the Mapesu Private Game Reserve and see up to 43 species of animals. In addition, you are invited to take part in a heritage tour to Mapungubwe, once the largest kingdom in the subcontinent with nearly untouched remains of palace sites. A bush dinner will be provided afterwards. 25 miles / 0% on-road / 100% off-road.

Day 7 - Cross the border into Botswana and into the Tuli Wilderness region. You will stay at the Mohave Bush Camp, a rustic camp that is unfenced, meaning you may see some visitors such as elephants wandering through camp. 55 miles / 10% on-road / 90% off-road.

Day 8 - View African game from your motorcycle on a private tour, not open to the public. You will also have the opportunity to take a guided game walk and eat dinner under the stars at the Molema Bush Camp on the banks of the Limpopo River. 25 miles / 0% on-road / 100% off-road.

Day 9 - Ride to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, a community-based wildlife project put in place to save both white and black rhinoceros. You will have the option of either sleeping indoors or outdoors. 195 miles / 90% on-road / 10% off-road.

Day 10 - Travel to the Makadikadi Pans, which is one of the largest salt flats in the world, the remains of an ancient lake that was once larger than Switzerland. Sleep under the stars on the salt pans. 310 miles / 100% on-road / 0% off-road.

Day 11 - Spend the day riding through rural Botswana and spend the night at a bush lodge situated near a natural elephant watering hole. 98 miles / 90% on-road / 10% off-road.

Day 12 - After watching elephants in the morning, you will travel to Kasane, where four countries almost meet: Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Spend the night in luxury accommodations in-town. 160 miles / 100% on-road / 0% off-road.

Day 13 - Take a much-needed rest day in Kasane. If you feel up to it, you can take a boat cruise of the Chobe River where you can spot wildlife, a tour of Victoria Falls which is one of the Seven Wonders and also one of the world's largest waterfalls, or go fish for tigerfish, the hardest fighting freshwater fish and one with razor sharp teeth.

Day 14 - Backtrack to the Makadikadi Pans and stay in Nata Lodge, an oasis among the salt which offers luxury thatched chalets built on stilts. 200 miles / 100% on-road / 0% off-road.

Day 15 - In the heart of the Tuli is Stevensford Game Reserve, a working farm with a luxurious pool. 280 miles / 90% on-road / 10% off-road.

Day 16 - Travel back across the border into South Africa and return to Johannesburg where you will return your motorcycle. 280 miles / 100% on-road / 0% off-road.

Day 17 - Departure day - say your goodbyes and head back home.

* Bike hire (rental) is estimated at $140-$220usd/day ($2340-$3740), depending on the motorcycle you choose. Due to the effects of COVID on tourism we are unable to guarantee a specific model of bike or lock in pricing as part of the trip cost. We are working to secure Tenere 700's for everyone unless you prefer a BMW. We expect to be able to get the BMW F750GS, F850GS, R1250GS if you prefer. When you register let us know which bikes you prefer in order. If there are special considerations such as inseam please let us know. We will arrange for your motorcycle hire and transport to and from the pickup/drop-off location(s) as part of the tour support.
